Star Wars Episode 7 - Recording Snoke
When people ask me "what have you worked on" the most recognised, commercially successful (to date) and let's be honest a massive name drop is Star Wars Episode 7.
Like Avengers I worked with the motion and facial capture team at Imaginarium. My job was to record Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke with the original scene being filmed at Pinewood Studios and the facial capture with production sound filmed at Ealing.
I used a duel boom and lav iso system to provide options to sound post - the more direct sound of a DPA Slim lav attached to a facial camera frame combined with a Sennheiser MKH50 on point. There was also a bit of routing to do as the other actors lines were sent wirelessly to Andy as well as setting up 2 way communication between Andy and director JJ Abrams in LA.
Needless to say it was a pinnacle moment for me - I was thrilled to be entrusted to record for such a massive project and while the heart beated a little faster when we began rolling I was confident in my equipment, boom op and plan for the sessions.
